| Herpetiform
aphthae
They
present as multiple ulcerations, 1 to 2 mm in diameter,
grouped in clusters over erythematous tissue, in
any part of the oral mucosa.
They are very painful and cause the patient alot
of discomfort. Clinically
they appear as herpes simplex, but histology and cytology
reveal them to be aphthae, the Tzanck test and virus cultivation
being negative.
