Ephelis
| Ephelis or freckles, also known as labial and oral
melanotic macules, are round or oval spots, light
brown in color, which are usually present in areas
of the skin which are exposed to sunlight.
Zeisler and Becker believe they originate
from a prenatal concentration of melanoblasts
in small epidermal segments.
In this patient, we see the spots in the
lips and mucocutaneous or vermillion border.
