| Erythroplakia
Erythroplakia
is a well defined lesion of the oral mucosa, of bright red color,
velvety or granular surface, that usually presents irregular contours.
It is commonly located in the buccal mucosa and the soft palate.
Erythroplakias have a higher malignant transformation potential
than leukoplakias. Histologically
they show changes that range from moderate dysplasia to invasive squamous
cell carcinoma.
