Removal of a root from the maxillary sinus 


Palatine root of an upper right 1st molar, pushed into the maxillary sinus due to incorrect use of the elevator.  


Post-extraction state of the alveolus, 24 hours after the accident.
Note the clot that has formed and which is obstructing the communication.  


Anesthesia of the infraorbital nerve.

 


Incisión of the sulcus of the vestibule with a #15 blade, to approach the maxillary sinus.

 


Lifting of a full flap with a periosteal elevator, leaving bone exposed.
the anterior-external face of the maxilla  


Osteotomy with a round bur to approach the maxillary sinus.

 


Aperture of the maxillary sinus to visualize the root inside.  


Once localized, removal of the root with disection forceps.  


Palatine root removed from the maxillary sinus.

 


Single stitches, with black 3.0 silk suture
