| Recurrent
herpes labialis
It
is a recurrent, acute viral infection which affects the
skin and/or mucosa of adolescents and adults and is produced
by the herpes simplex virus.
Before its appearance the patients sense a burning
sensation and reddening of the area where numerous cluster-shaped
vesicles later appear which burst spontaneously forming
scabs which bleed when one tries to remove them. After
15 days the lesions heal without scarring.
Recurrences are not predictable, but stress, sunburn
and immunodepression trigger their appearance.
