| Herpes
zoster in a HIV patient |
Is
an infection produced by
Herpesvirus
varicellae, preceeded by a general malaise, fever,
neuralgia and a burning sensation, more or less intense
in the area where the lesions erupt.
It is characterized by diffuse erythematous plaques
of bright red color over which multiple vesicles which
are relatively resistant to rupture appear to implant
themselves and follow the trayectory of the affected nerve.
Oral manifestations can be seen in the maxilla, mandible
geniculate ganglia, cervical plexus, the IX and X cranial
nerves; appearing
as multiple vesicles in a linear pattern in the buccal
mucosa, vestibular sulcus, palate and tongue. As
all vesicles in the mouth, they burst easily and can become
secondarily infected.
