It
presents as a whitish lesion, of non-removablecorrugated surface,
along the lateral borders of the tongue in about 10% of HIV infected
patients. Its diagnosis
may be confirmed through a biopsy where the multiple hairlike projections
can be appreciated, as well as certain characteristic bodies and hyperkeratois. Candida
spores may also be present.
