| Erosive
lichen planus
It
i san atypical variety of red lichen planus, characterized by erosive
lesions of varying sizes, as a result of an intense degeneration of
the basal layer of mucosal epithelium that produces epithelial detachment,
with the formation of blisters of varying sizes that burst, removing
the roof of the lesion and exposing the floor of this one.
Diagnosis of the condition is made easier when the typical
white line drawings (Wickham’s striae) for this disease are seen around
the lesion. Grinspan
quotes, in his book Diseases of the Mouth, a ten percent occurrence
of malignant transformation in the observed cases.
