Peutz-Jeghers Syndrome

5 yr-old girl with pigmentation of the lips and the soles of the feet

Peutz-Jeghers syndrome is a familial, autosomic dominant condition with high penetrance and variable expressivity.  It consists of the association of oral and perioral melanic pigmentations in the form of multiple, independent elements of dark brown color, sometimes bluish, 2 to 3 mm in diameter and of intestinal polyps many times manifesting once the patient reaches an adult age.  While Jeghers says the spots are indispensable to the diagnosis, cases have been described where polyposis occurs with no pigmentation and pigmentation occurs with no polyposis.
