This
is a mayor retention cyst which occurs specifically in the floor of
the mouth, due to the obstruction of the sublingual or submaxillary
gland excretor duct. It
is an elevated lesion, ballon-like in aspect, of somewhat elastic
and fluctuating consistency, bluish in color, which is located in
the anterior part of the floor of the mouth.
It may reach a large size and affect both speech and feeding
due to displacement of the tongue. The
most affected gland is the sublingual, but it may also affect the
submaxillary gland on occasion.
