It is a specific form of  traumatic ulceration.  It is observed in children with a chronic cough, whose tongue projects forward during the act of coughing.  The tongue is traumatized against the incisal borders of the mandibular incisors, producing an ulcerated lesion with an infiltrated base which resembles a tumor.
